Bringing Down the Signs: Bruce Boynton and the 1961 Freedom Rides

Join us for a conversation with Bruce Boynton in the historic Judge Frank M. Johnson Courthouse. Mr. Boynton will talk about his life and his U.S. Supreme Court case Boynton v. Virginia, the spark that ignited the 1961 Freedom Rides. 

Judge Myron Thompson and Freedom Rider Ernest "Rip" Patton will give brief overviews. National, state and local officials will recognize Mr. Boynton for his commitment to freedom, justice and equal rights for all. 

Enter the courthouse from Lee Street. A photo ID is required. Cell phones and cameras are not allowed in the courthouse. 

Free parking is available at the MarJam deck at the intersection of Court Street and Washington Avenue.

The event and the reception following it are free.
