Join us at noon on Thursday, July 14 as Joseph Caver and Daniel Haulman present Tuskegee Airmen: An Illustrated History: 1939 - 1949.This informative talk and book signing will be held at the Alabama Department of Archives and History.
The first African American Army Air Corps pilot training program was established at Tuskegee Institute in 1941. The Tuskegee Airmen trained at Tuskegee were the only black American military pilots in World War II. In this presentation, Joseph Caver and Daniel Haulman will trace the Tuskegee Airmen through the various stages of training, deployment, and combat. Their research is based on the documents available at the Air Force Historical Research Agency (AFHRA), where the authors have worked for many years. Their research and the resulting book honors the Tuskegee Airmen not only as war heroes, but also as pioneers in the quest for racial justice.
Authors Joseph Caver, Jerome Ennels, and Daniel Haulman are historians with the Air Force Historical Research Agency at Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, Alabama, the primary repository for Air Force historical documents. Caver is a senior archivist and chief of the circulation section and he has taught classes at Alabama State University.
