Art Auction 2012, The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts’ biennial fundraiser, is scheduled for Feb. 23 and Feb. 25. The exhibition of works for auction will be available for bidding on Feb. 4, and a volunteer will be in the gallery during regular museum hours to provide information and bid numbers. High bidders will be notified of their successes immediately following the events.
The Silent Auction of more than 500 works of art will take place from 6:30-9 p.m. Feb. 23, and will include an elaborate selection of hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. Tickets for all the food, beverages and bidding are $50 per person.
At 6 p.m. Feb. 25, cocktails will be followed by an elegant dinner and live auction of 35 lots conducted by an auctioneer. Tickets for the evening are $150 per person (or $250 per person for preferred seating) and include admission and all of the fun of the Silent Auction at no additional charge. Tables of eight or 10 are available.
A committee of volunteers traveled the country seeking works of art in all media to tempt the collectors of Montgomery. There will be many choices at all price points for both novice decorators and seasoned collectors. There will be extensive offerings from New York and Santa Fe. The Steering Committee, chaired by Lucy Jackson, is coordinating all the details of both events.
If you are unable to attend one of the Auction evenings, you may obtain a bid number at no cost and place advance bids on items in both the Silent and Live Auctions. Many advance bidders have become successful owners of wonderful works of art at past auctions. Proceeds from the biennial Art Auction support the exhibition, education and acquisition programs of the Museum. Art Auction 2012 is sponsored by Merrill Lynch.
