Montgomery Ballet School’s fall classes begin Aug. 16

The Montgomery Ballet School will begin a new year of classes starting Aug. 16. The official school of the Montgomery Ballet Company, the Montgomery Ballet School a high quality of instruction by the professional company members of the Montgomery Ballet. The school serves children, teenagers, adults and professional dancers and offers dance classes in creative movement, ballet, special classes for boys and men’s technique, pointe, variations, partnering, modern, jazz, and yoga. 

Under current Artistic Director Elie Lazar, the ballet school is committed to bringing professional and experienced dance instructors to Montgomery and Alabama. Established in 1958, the Montgomery Ballet is the longest continuing dance organization in operation in the state. Dancers who have graduated from the Montgomery Ballet School have earned contracts with the American Ballet Theater, the Kansas City Ballet, the Milwaukee Ballet, the Cincinnati Ballet, the Los Angeles Ballet, and the Montgomery Ballet.

Students who are enrolled at the Montgomery Ballet are eligible to audition for the children’s parts in the company’s annual production of “The Nutcracker,” held each year at the historic Davis Theater. Students ages 9-21 are eligible to audition for placement in the Youth Ensemble. The Youth Ensemble may perform in Montgomery Ballet productions including “The Sleeping Beauty,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “Coppelia,” “Snow White,” and this year, “Beauty and the Beast.” The students accepted into the ensemble are offered and invited to additional classes and rehearsals.

The school will host an Open House the week of Aug. 9-13 from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.. Parents and students can come by the office to register that week and pick up 2010-2011 school year information. Class placement for new students will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. Aug. 10 and 12. New students should call the Montgomery Ballet office to make an appointment to take a placement class at 334.409.0522.
