Join the Landmarks Foundation for the First Annual Alabama Decorative Arts Symposium - Alabama Made on January 21-22, 2016. This premiere event will celebrate Alabama's rich material culture & long tradition of ingenuity. Inspired by the 1985 Alabama Decorative Arts Survey and the Made in Alabama exhibit that followed. Join as experts discuss the following topics and more: Alabama Decorative Arts Survey in Retrospect, Made in Alabama, Revisited, Traditional Pottery, Photographs & Photographers, Alabama Quilt Book Project, Sivler & Silversmiths, and a forum, What now?, discussing the future of Alabama Decorative Arts Collections.
January 21 -Reception & Opening of ADAS exhibit, New Discoveries
The exhibit opening will be held at the Loeb Reception Center, 301 Columbus Street, and will focus on those items discovered in the 30 years since the 1985 survey. A reception featuring a menu designed by renowned Alabama chef Frank Stitt will follow across the street at the Ware-Farley-Hood Mansion. $25 per guest.
January 22 - Symposium at the Alabama Department of Archives & History
The First Annual Alabama Decorative Arts Symposium, Alabama Made, is inspired by the 1985 Alabama Decorative Arts Survey and the Made in Alabama exhibit that followed. The symposium will be held throughout the day at the Alabama Department of Archives and History, and is free to the public. Breakfast, lunch and refreshments are available with the purchase of a meal package, $30 per guest.
