ARCHIVES TO HOST MEMORIES OF YOUNG WORLD REUNION AND SCREENING
The Alabama Department of Archives and History (ADAH) will host a special reunion and screening of the popular 1970s and 80s children’s television program Young World.
The event will be held in the ADAH’s Joseph M. Farley Alabama Power Auditorium. Admission is free. Created and hosted by educator Marge Payne, Young World aired on WSFA-TV from 1972 to 1987. It featured a wide variety of guests of all ages, puppets, games, and cartoons. Three decades after its final episode, viewers still fondly recall Young World, Marge Payne, her co-hosts, and the show’s lovable cast of puppets.
The July 14 event will include screenings of Young World clips, conversations with former cast members and guests, and fond memories. A cereal bar will also be available for attendees to enjoy.
The reunion and screening is presented in conjunction with the Museum of Alabama’s exhibit Memories of Young World, currently on display in the ADAH’s second-floor lobby. The exhibit features puppets from the show, props, a model of the set, photographs, and other memorabilia on loan to the ADAH by Art Williams and Clydetta Fulmer. It will be on display through mid-October 2018.
