Book Talk: Beautiful War, Studies in Dreadful Fascination

During the week of Veterans Day 2017, the Archives will offer noontime book talks focused on military history. Admission is free. 

On Thursday, November 9, Dr. Philp Beidler will present "Beautiful War: Studies in Dreadful Fascination." In this presentation, Dr. Beidler will provide an overview of his book, which considers the presence of war in our everyday lives through avenues including popular culture, art, literature and music, with emphasis on the “dreadful fascination” war has persistently held in society. 

Dr. Philip Beidler is the Margaret and William Going Professor of English at The University of Alabama, where he has taught American literature since receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in 1974. Dr. Beidler is a combat veteran of the Vietnam War and the author of numerous publications.
