Creative Writing Workshop for Teachers
Marlin Barton, 20-year veteran teacher with AWF's Writing Our Stories, will offer a FREE workshop on July 21 at Troy University (Montgomery campus) from 9 a.m. to noon. It is open to teachers grades 7-12 and others interested in creative writing for at-risk youth. Maximum attendance: 40. Reservation required by July 19.
Barton will demonstrate recently designed lessons based on the works of several Alabama Writers Hall of Fame inductees’ works, giving you a chance to test drive these with your own writing.
To attend the workshop, reply to Lauren Callen at firstname.lastname@example.org to hold a spot. You can also reach her at 334-265-7728. Location is Troy University, Montgomery Campus, Whitley Hall, Room 140-141, 231 Montgomery St, Montgomery, AL 36104. (Whitley Hall is directly across from the Rosa Parks Museum.)
Both the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts have made the development of these creative writing lessons possible. Sharing with teachers and others is the culmination of the project.
