competition set to crown montgomery’s best bartender

Montgomery, AL (August 8, 2013) – The Alabama Restaurant and Hospitality Alliance (ARHA) and American Harvest Vodka are looking for Montgomery’s best bartender. A contest will be held on October 3, 2013 from 4 – 7 PM at the Exchange Bar at the Renaissance Hotel & Spa in downtown Montgomery. The winner will be crowned Montgomery’s Bartender of the Year and will be invited to compete in the State Bartender of the Year Contest held on October 28, 2013, at the Renaissance Battle House Hotel and Spa in Mobile, Alabama. They will also as receive a cash award of $200 from ARHA and American Harvest Vodka. The first, second and third place finishers will receive a recognition plaque from ARHA. The winner of the state contest will take home the $2000 grand prize and have access to the coveted “Bartender of the Year” trophy until next year’s contest.

Nomination forms are available from the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitor Bureau and through the ARHA Website at Click the link in the “News” section to access the form.
All nominations and completed packets can be submitted directly to ARHA or hand-delivered to the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitor Bureau at 300 Water Street, Suite 200-A no later than 4 pm on August 30th.  All nominations received will be sent to the judging panel at the ARHA for consideration.  Selections will be made the first week in September, and contestants will be notified by mail. Each contestant will receive in advance a list of 20 cocktail recipes using American Harvest Vodka, along with more details of the contest.

On October 3, contestants will each receive a random selection of four cocktails from the list of 20, and they will have 10 minutes each to produce the four cocktails as well as their own customized signature cocktail using American harvest vodka.  The signature cocktail will be included in the judging and each participant must provide their own name for the cocktail and ingredients to make the cocktail, excluding the vodka provided. There will also be a short written test provided to each contestant to judge their knowledge of the cocktails. Each contestant will be judged by a judging panel consisting of local celebrities from the Montgomery area. Contestants will be judged on the taste of their cocktails; their flair, showmanship, crowd interaction and creativity in making the cocktails; and their speed in making the cocktails.

The contest is open and free to the public. The Exchange will offer happy hour prices and feature the signature cocktail on the bar menu.
