Montgomery Veterans Day Celebration

Monday, November 6, 2017

The City of Montgomery has announced plans for the inaugural Montgomery Veterans Day Celebration, in lieu of a parade in years past, on November 10th at Riverwalk Stadium to honor the brave men and women of America’s armed forces.

“Veterans Day, an especially significant occasion in our community, is a day we stand united as a country and as a community in support of the men and women who have selflessly served this nation,” Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange said. “Although support has been steady in the past, hosting a much larger event at Riverwalk Stadium will help us accommodate even more residents, visitors and service members, to whom we will reaffirm our unwavering support and steadfast commitment by offering a free event with food, fun and a few surprises.”

WHAT: City of Montgomery Veterans Day Celebration;
WHERE: Riverwalk Stadium in downtown Montgomery;
WHEN: November 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Special messages from Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) Director Dr. Linda Boyle and the River Region’s Congressional delegation. CAVHCS also plans to host a free “welcome home” health and benefits fair for veterans in the main stadium concourse after the event.

"I am really excited seeing that the City seems to really want to honor the veterans, rather than us just honoring ourselves," Commander American Legion Post II Chuck Cochran said. "We've been able to give our input as to what we wanted, and they've accommodated every wish."

Gates will open at 8 a.m. on November 10 for the free, family-friendly event featuring a dozen historic military vehicles, more than 35 military vendors and static displays, a performance by the 151st Army Band and an inflatable area for children. Parking will be available at the Biscuits parking lots along Coosa Street. Shuttle service from the parking area to the stadium will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
